Roman Pictures

Roman Pictures began in 1985 as Zio Productions, making talent showcases and television commercials for local merchants. Its founder, Carlos Etzio Roman — creator, president and creative lead — was born in Lima, Peru, and came to America at eighteen with his wife and infant son, speaking very little English.

A first short in 1989 led to professional equipment, and to the independent feature circuit at a time when that route barely existed outside the studios. Mismatch reached the Kennedy Center's AFI Theater in 1991; Lady Law followed in 1994. The company took the Roman Pictures name in 1990 and has been producing features, television and short films ever since.

Alongside the productions sits WRPN.TV, the Worldwide Roman Pictures Network — an entertainment news operation covering Los Angeles galas and festivals and the film scene across DC, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware — and thirteen international film festivals run with long-term partner Sharon Carpenter-Rose and his wife, Judith Roman.
